A First-Timer Guide to Ouray

ouray!!For those of you planning on visiting Ouray, Colorado for the first time this year, determining what to do or where to go may be a bit overwhelming. Thankfully, the Colorado-based magazine 5280 has simplified things by publishing a handy “First-Timer’s Guide” featuring the “Switzerland of America”.

The guide covers just about everything that continues to make Ouray so appealing. Main Street is registered as a National Historic District and is home to many of Ouray’s classic buildings that have been around for hundreds of years. Also mentioned is the popular (and free to attend) Ouray Ice Park which draws thousands of avid ice climbers looking to experience a thrill. If you happen to visit Ouray this weekend, the annual Ouray Ice Festival officially began yesterday and will continue until Sunday.

For those seeking something relaxed versus ice climbing, Perimeter Trail is also mentioned in the guide. This loop is six miles long and circles Ouray in its entirety. Do take the proper precautions when exploring the trail as the winter conditions can make the narrow parts of the trail treacherous.
