We’ve frequently mentioned several independent musical acts that drop by the Sherbino Theater over in Ridgway to perform. Tomorrow, the venue will be welcoming yet another acclaimed artist. Singer-songwriter Jade Jackson was raised in Santa Margarita in the central area of California where she was exposed to a broad selection of music from a young age, including diverse artists like Johnny Cash, The Cure, and more.
At age thirteen, Jackson took up the guitar and began writing songs. By the time she became a high school student, she had well over 300 songs written. After seeing Mike Ness of the punk rock band Social Distortion perform, Jackson decided to pursue a music career, launching a band which would go on to perform alongside famous names like Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, and more.
In an interesting turn of events, the wife of Mike Ness was friends with Jade Jackson’s mother. When Ness heard Jackson’s music, he produced her debut album, Gilded. The country rock album evokes the strength of Grammy-winning singer and musician Lucinda Williams while incorporating the melodies of Country Music Hall of Fame artist and fourteen-time Grammy winner Emmylou Harris.
