If you’re at all familiar with the history of Ouray, you may have heard about the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Still visible today, the railroad was at one point in time a method of transportation for cowboys, settlers, and miners until the advent of automobiles. You can still check out the old locomotives to this day.
Are you an experienced snowboarder or skier looking to test your skills? Silverton Mountain has a facility aimed at pros. A double chairlift will take you right up to the steepest skiing this side of Valdez, Alaska. If you feel you’re ready for this sizable challenge, prepare for an exhilarating experience.
A United Nations World Heritage Site, Mesa Verde National Park continues to draw curious history buffs to its cliff dwellings. As a means of preserving the marvelous archeological treasure, the National Park Service has excavated and stabilized both mesa top and cliff dwelling sites, chronologically interpreting well over 550 years of mesa occupation. To get a feel for the way people may have once lived, it’s definitely worth a visit.
