The Ultimate Packing List for Summer Activities in Ouray

Colorado is the perfect summer getaway for the adventurer in us all. Sunny days are accompanied by cool nights, you’ll surely need to bring layers and pack for anything. It can get warm during the days, but the weather can change on a dime – plus, you’ll need to be prepared for all of your outdoor activities!

When staying at our Ouray Colorado lodging location, be sure to bring these items.

  • High-elevation gear: high altitudes mean higher temperatures, and the weather varies even more, the high you are. Pack rain gear, light layers with jackets or flannels, the right shoes (we suggest heavy-duty hiking boots), hiking sticks, and plenty of snacks.

  • On the water gear: rafting and kayaking are a big part of a Colorado summer, especially if you are staying in Ouray Colorado Lodging. Pack water shoes, swimsuits, and a dry bag for your cell phones and wallets. Most recreational water places will provide life jackets.

  • Other basic items you will need no matter what you end up doing: sunscreen (even when it isn’t sunny outside, the UV rays can damage your skin, especially at higher altitudes when there is less of the earth’s atmosphere to protect you), sunglasses (same reasons – protect those eyes!), wide-brimmed hats, lip balm, insect repellent, and a water-resistant or heavy-duty backpack to keep all of your items in while you spend time outside.
