There is nothing quite like some smooth jazz to put you into a certain mood. Whether it’s the light tunes that evoke feelings of a certain time in your life or just the musicianship, some jazz is good for the soul. The vintage jazz band Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles has remained steadfast in its mission to revitalize another type of classic genre: swing music. They’ve cultivated a reputation for the distinct personality, power, and wit that each member of the band brings to each show, showcasing the distinct charm that harkens back to the 1930s and 40s.
Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles is known for its big band sound which is influenced by names like Benny Goodman mixed with the legendary showmanship of widely acclaimed names like singer, trumpeter, and composer Louis Armstrong. While keeping a close eye on nurturing the vintage sound of jazz, the band has also written its own original tunes which are regularly performed during their performances.
If you’ve never had the pleasure of watching Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles, what are you waiting for? The band will be performing this Friday, November 2nd at the Wright Opera House at 7:30 pm. Tickets are only $25 for adults and just $5 for students age eighteen and under. This is a great opportunity to discover genres that don’t get as much airplay as the music currently on popular radio.
