Acoustic acts frequently visit the Sherbino Theater over in Ridgway. Last year, we mentioned several of them and this year we’re continuing the tradition by telling you about some of the acts that will soon be performing. In this case, that musical act is the duo known by the amusing name of Growling Old Men.
Consisting of guitarist John Lowell and Ben Winship on mandolin, Growling Old Men share vocal duties as they perform a mix of acoustic Americana and bluegrass. These genres are presented via a selection of original, obscure, and traditional tunes that are always changed up during each performance. The band has earned a reputation as a festival favorite and they have made appearances at notable events like the Vancouver Folk Festival, Telluride and the Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival, and the Shetland Folk Festival.
Growling Old Men will perform at the Sherbino on January 30th at 7 pm. Tickets are only $18. If you have the time, get out there and support the duo as well as all of the other lesser known acts that you don’t see on the mainstream music charts.
