While September is bringing some warm weather, Colorado’s upcoming fall season will soon bring a rainbow of stunning leaf colors to the state. The best part is that the fall season is expected to have a profound, long-lasting impact. The combination of enticing winter snow, a wet spring, and frequent summer downpours has produced a fall season that will make you want to take lots of photos, selfies included.
If you happened to be in or close to Keystone, you might have already seen some autumnal hues. If you haven’t already, the state’s southern regions should begin to exhibit more intense fall colors toward the end of September and into early October.
The “Million Dollar Highway,” which begins on the San Juan Skyway and continues through Ouray, Colorado, and on to our neighboring town of Ridgway, is a great route to take to view the fall foliage once it arrives. One of the most beautiful drives in the state, it is well worth your time to take any season, but is especially magnificent in the fall.
When visiting Ouray in the fall, one can also enjoy the colorful scenery by taking a ride on the San Juan Skyway. Depending on how much time you have and what you want to do in the Ouray area, the six-hour drive can be a truly breathtaking experience.
