Go Hiking in Ouray

hikehikehikeIn a previous blog, we discussed how hiking is among the multitude of exhilarating activities available for you to enjoy in Ouray, Colorado. Regardless of how you prefer to refer to the activity, the San Juan Mountains are practically begging for you to explore the fascinating trails. Let’s take a closer look at a couple.

If you’re only beginning to get your feet wet with hiking, Box Cañon Waterfall & Park is a good starting point to gain some experience. This geological wonder is located close to Canyon Creek and is a sight that will simply take your breath away. The “box” portion of the trail has been deemed a protected habitat by the National Audubon Society and it is also where you’ll find the endangered Black Swift Bird. If you want something short yet exciting, the trail is about fifteen minutes long but chances are you’re going to come across a number of picture-worthy sights that will extend the trip.

The Perimeter Trail presents a bit of a moderate challenge that will take you considerably longer to complete (at least two and a half hours). The trail winds for six miles and will guide you through beautiful sights like Cascade Falls, the Potato Patch, and more.

If you’re experienced and also adventurous, Old Horsethief Trail will take about four or five hours and it begins about 100 yards north of the Ouray Visitor Center. Hikers will come upon Skyrocket Creek and Bridal Veil Creek before they encounter various historic mines.
