Ouray’s Amazing Trails and Ghost Towns

yankee-boy-basinWill you be visiting Ouray, Colorado anytime soon and staying at the Twin Peaks Lodge & Hot Springs? If you’ve never visited, you’re in for quite the well-rounded experience full of different activities to enjoy. Let’s take a look at some things you might want to do.

For those that want to try out some great Jeep experiences, Yankee Boy Basin Road stretches over nine miles and is incredibly scenic, full of sights like lakes and of course the absolutely stunning, majestic Ouray mountains. Bring along your pooch if you like! The trail is open from June ‘til October. Nature lovers may also want to check out “Box Canyon” Falls. This enchanting, dramatic scene is a sight to behold, featuring a captivating 285 foot waterfall that plummets into a canyon.

Ouray and the neighboring areas of Silverton and Telluride are full of ghost towns to explore, capturing a fascinating snapshot of what life was once like during the days of mining. Because of the harsh winter months, many of these towns were abandoned, but remnants still exist within remote areas that in some cases can only be accessed by four-wheel drive vehicles.
