With the wealth of natural sights to explore, Ouray and the surrounding areas provide an abundance of excitement for anyone looking to immerse themselves in its many vistas. A bike trip reveals many sights, and we’re here to highlight a few.
The San Juan Scenic Skyway extends over 200 miles and comprises a portion of the Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway System, forming a loop that takes riders through Durango, Telluride, Ouray and Silverton, and more. If you’re planning on biking it in its entirety, you may wish to allow two days to fully soak in the entire trip and its sights.
The trip is packed with sights like Uncompahgre National Forest and San Juan National Forest, the Animas River and Bridal Veil Falls, the Mesa Verde National Park cliff dwellings, the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, and the famous Million Dollar Highway. Be sure to drop by Chimney Rock, National Historic Site and Archaeological Area worth admiring.
The Alpine Loop is a shorter trip in the southwest area that’s just over sixty miles long. Its history goes back to the late 1800s and biking through it, you’ll notice fields of wildflowers, ghost towns, and so much more.
