Summer in Colorado is one of the best times of the year. There are many outdoor events to see and experience from June to August. If you are an outdoorsy person and are visiting Ouray Colorado Lodging then these events are for you!
On June 16-17, Ride the Rockies will be hosting a huge non-profit bicycle ride. Proceeds from the event directly benefit the Denver Post Community Foundation, a community organization that enriches the lives of community members through the support of programs benefiting arts, culture, children, education, and the provision of basic human services. This year’s start and finish location will be in Durango, with access to the historic Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Animas River, and other areas in town.
The Mountain Air Music Series will be hosting two concerts in the park this summer on June 24 and during the Ouray Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser on The Fourth of July. Come enjoy a free concert at Fellin Park!
The Ouray Water Fights are back for The Fourth of July! This tradition near Twin Peaks Ouray Colorado lodging location dates back to the mining days, where four volunteer firefighters blast each other with fire hoses until the losing team falls down or surrenders. It’s one of the town’s most loved and hilarious events.
The Dennis Weaver Memorial Park (Dennis Weaver played Chester in Gunsmoke!) will be open. The park is great for easy access and beautiful views of the Rocky Mountains. It has picnic areas along the river and miles upon miles of hiking and biking trails. It’s also a nature preserve, so expect to see wildlife during your visit!
Looking for more hiking? The Ouray Perimeter Trail is six miles long that features varied terrain, waterfalls, and bridges, along with plenty of opportunities to take an up-close look at the area’s geology. The trail sits at 1,6000 feet of elevation and is usually 4-5 hours long. The trail starts at the Ouray Visitors’ Center. Make sure you pack good footwear and trekking poles!
