Are museums among the things you enjoy doing when you have some downtime? If so, Colorado is brimming with numerous museums offering a glimpse into the state’s incredibly rich history. Let’s explore a couple of the highlights.
For those of you visiting Twin Peaks here in Ouray, definitely make a stop at the Ouray County Museum, located at a site that originally served as a Sisters of Mercy Hospital. Walking through the museum is a rich glimpse into yesteryear, including some peculiar sights such as the operating room display showing the tools used to sedate patients in the past (whiskey and ether). The museum is located at 420 Sixth Avenue.
The Buena Vista Heritage Museum is found where the Chafee County Courthouse once stood. Explore the lower level to find a multitude of historic artifacts including a detailed recreation of a classic classroom. Head upstairs to check out the model railway and make sure to bring along the little ones to enjoy the boy’s treehouse. The museum’s address is 506 East Main Street.
